ILIGAN CITY (PIA) — Ninety-seven persons deprived of liberty (PDL) from Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory (ICJMD) and Iligan City Jail-Female Dormitory (ICJFD) completed various training programs facilitated by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The joint graduation ceremony, held at the ICJMD facility, highlighted ongoing efforts to rehabilitate PDL through technical education and skills development.
A total of 30 male PDL completed the Theoretical Driving Course, while another 30 completed training in Automotive Starter System Troubleshooting and Repair. Sixteen females finished training in cookies and tart making, and 21 completed organic farming training.
These 40-hour TESDA-certified courses aim to equip PDL with skills for reintegration and livelihood opportunities post-release.
One graduate, “Felix,” said the training gave him a chance to start over. He noted that receiving his certificate marked a new beginning after serving his sentence.
ICJMD Warden Chief Inspector Carmelo A. Corsame highlighted the importance of providing growth opportunities. ICJFD Warden Inspector Marivic D. Vergara commended the graduates for their perseverance and commitment to change.
TESDA Regional Training Center – Iligan Head Sittie Aliah Ali Limbao-Lucman acknowledged the partnership between TESDA and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
“Through skill development, we are offering PDL a second chance—an opportunity for a better future beyond incarceration,” she said.
She added that the ceremony reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive rehabilitation programs, supporting PDL in becoming productive members of society. (BJMP Iligan/PIA-10/Lanao del Norte)
