This mural beautifully showcases the rich biodiversity and natural wonders of Eastern Visayas. We chose to put this along the scenic Magsaysay Boulevard since many locals and guests pass this way every day, hoping that this will inspire everyone to appreciate and protect our precious resources for future generations,” said DOT-8 Regional Director Karina Rosa S. Tiopes.

Local artists Kim Clinton Gonzales and Andrew Abainza from the Kolor Banwa group skillfully brought the mural to life with vivid and dynamic colors, effectively displaying their exceptional artistic abilities.

According to the local artists, they began working on the mural on August 28 and ensured its completion before the unveiling. Their work was commissioned, and they received a token of appreciation from the DOT-8.

[We were not familiar with the different protected areas, but when the Department of Tourism shared with us about the biodiversity, we began to realize how beautiful Eastern Visayas is; it can truly compete with other places. We also developed a better perspective to plan the mural in a way that people will appreciate.]

Assistant Secretary Gissela Marie R. Quisumbing from the DOT Office of the Secretary also shared her thoughts about the event, highlighting the chance to experience the beauty and liveliness of Tacloban’s cultural and historical offerings.

The event is in partnership with the city government of Tacloban. Representatives from national government agencies, the local government unit of Tacloban, academic institutions, and tourism officers also supported the event.
