QUEZON CITY, (PIA) –Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos has urged the 493 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awardees this year to share their success stories with other local government units (LGUs).
Abalos made the call Monday during the SGLG 2023 awarding rites at The Manila Hotel.
He also asked them to espouse a culture of excellence among LGUs and ensure that no community will be left behind in the country’s thrust towards prosperity.
“Sa inyong 493 SGLG passers, nawa’y ibahagi po ninyo ang inyong kwento sa ating mga kapwa local officials, ” he said.

“Kapag may mga pagtitipon at pagsasanay, nawa’y pag-usapan natin ang iba’t ibang paraan kung paanong mas magiging mahusay pa ang ating pamamahala,” he added.
Of the SGLG awardees this year, 28 are provinces, 64 cities, and 401 municipalities.
The National Capital Region makes history this year as 11 of its Local Government Units were declared passers of the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Program.
The highly-urbanized cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, Valenzuela, and Quezon City were able to sail through the ten (10) governance areas of (1) Financial Administration, (2) Disaster Preparedness, (3) Social Protection and Sensitivity, (4) Health Compliance and Responsiveness, (5) Sustainable Education, (6) Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, (7) Safety, Peace & Order, (Environmental Management, (9) Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and the Arts, and (10) Youth Development.
With the inclusion of additional indicators across several governance areas, all 11 were able to meet the standards of governance set by the aforementioned program.
Meanwhile, 22 LGUs joined the circle of 7-time passers, after sustaining their good performance since 2015 when the SGLG was first conferred.
Likewise, 94 LGUs were named as firs time awardees.
Enacted through Republic Act No. 11292 or “The Seal of Good Local Governance Act of 2019,” the SGLG is an institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program that encourages LGUs’ commitment to continuous progress and improve their performance along various governance areas.
All LGU awardees will receive an SGLG marker and incentive fund of P4 million for provinces, P2.3 million for cities, and P1.8 million for municipalities.
The reward money will then be utilized to support their respective local development initiatives. (DILG/PIA-NCR)
