About P1B poured into LGU ‘WaSH’ programs

MANILA (PIA) — In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure the availability and accessibility of clean water for all Filipinos, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released some P1 billion to fund water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) infrastructure projects in qualified local government units (LGUs).

Budget Sec. Amenah F. Pangandaman said the WaSH program will benefit at least 75 municipal LGUs (MLGUs) classified as 4th to 6th-income class municipalities, following the immediate release of funds.

When implemented, this will accelerate and facilitate access to safe and resilient water supply and sanitation services in the country’s lagging municipalities,” she said.

The budget chief signed the Special Allotment Release Order and Notices of Cash Allocation, drawing the funds from the Local Government Support Fund – Support and Assistance Fund to Participatory Budgeting under the Fiscal Year 2024 General Appropriations Act or Republic Act No. 11975.

The WaSH program is a significant push to expand and upgrade water resource infrastructure in these underserved municipalities, the DBM secretary added. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
