BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — Local products, handicrafts and native delicacies of the province are showcased at the recently opened Christmas Bazaar at the University of Abra (UA)-Bangued Campus.
Acting Governor Atty. Russel Bragas, UA President Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., Department of Trade and Industry – Abra Officer-in-Charge Marvin Arcangel, and Provincial SK Federation President Krystal Venus Singson led the opening of the Christmas Bazaar.
The bazaar features various bamboo products, loom-woven clothes, novelty items, furniture, muscovado, coffee, and organic ointments, among others.
Arcangel said that the Christmas Bazar is an annual activity of DTI which aims to support local enterprises in Abra.
“This is one of our strategies to support our local MSMEs and industries, and this is a collaboration between the government and the different sectors to improve and enhance our local products,” Arcangel stated.
In support of local MSME development in Abra, Turqueza informed that the school is undertaking several researches and programs like the production of bamboo textile fiber.
“One of the ways we can help in economic development is through our research. Today, we are involved in the research and development of bamboo as a source of fibers. We already have a bamboo textile fiber hub in our main campuswhere bamboo fibers produced will be sold to the PTRI,” Turqueza said.
Bragas lauded this initiative and partnership of DTI and the state college which aids local enterprises to reach more market links.
“I’d like to commend DTI and University of Abra for pursuing, advancing and advocating the sustainability of the entrepreneurship and other endeavors of our local manufacturers. Their presence is not only limited now in the province and in our country because we know they are reaching the international arena,” Bragas said.
