Abra farmers enjoy more than P2.1M aid from DAR

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – Farmer members of four agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) organizations in Abra received farm capital and equipment worth P2,150,000 from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

DAR-Abra Agrarian Program Officer II Rita Arlen M. Dela Vega emphasized the importance of the assistance in helping local farmers have better income and sustainable livelihood.

“The program aims to provide livelihood support to ARBs through the farm machinery and equipment and seed capital distributed by DAR to these organizations. This is a step towards further developing their farming communities and promoting business ventures,” she explained.

The Hillside Agriculture Cooperative in Barangay Ampalioc, Luba received P200,000 worth of agri-farm inputs under the Major Crop-Based Block Farm program. The cooperative was also a beneficiary of P1.5 million worth of farm machineries and equipment turned-over last March 2024.

“Maragsakan kami launay, ti namnamaen mi daytoy masakbayan ket nasaysayaaton ti klase ti panagtalon mi nga mannalon,” said Hillside Agriculture Cooperative Chairperson Domingo Watil.

[We are very happy and we look forward to a more convenient way of farming.] He added that the support from the DAR is very useful in improving agriculture towards a more progressive community.]

Meanwhile, Villa Banat Agriculture Cooperative in Banat, Manabo, and Barit Agriculture Cooperative in Barit, Luba each received P150,000 in seed capital for palay rice trading.

Barit Agriculture Cooperative Manager Estrella Asuncion and Villa Banat Agriculture Cooperative Manager Lourdes Mendoza expressed gratitude for the assistance that will provide a venue for ARBs to market their products.

“Sapay kuma ad-ado pay ti proyekto nga inkayo idanon tapno matulungan dakami nga mannalon,” Mendoza said.

The Abualan Farmers and ARBs Agriculture Cooperative in San Juan also received P150,000 seed capital under the Sustainable Livelihood Support program. The assistance will be used to buy fertilizers and other farm inputs to improve crop yield and productivity.

The various agriculture support and assistance distributed under the Sustainable Livelihood Support and Major Crop-Based Block Farm Productivity Enhancement programs are in line with the goals of Ambisyon Natin 2040 of improving the quality of life for farmers and achieve long-term sustainable development.
