BANGUED, Abra(PIA) — Farmer associations from the different barangays of the capital town are expected to produce organic fertilizers from farm wastes soon with the machineries from the Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM) of the Department of Agriculture.
Through the shredders and rotavators, biodegradable wastes such as rice or corn husks will be valuable to farmers soon as these will produce them organic fertilizers. This can help the farmers to significantly reduce the cost of their farm inputs especially for synthetic fertilizers.
With farmers producing their own organic fertilizers, the soil quality will recover improving soil fertility, Soil and Water Access Team-Cordillera Alternate Focal Visitacion Castillo said.
A total of 12 farmers association in Bangued received composting facilities. Each pair of biodegradable waste shredder and rotavator costs around P935,000.
The turn over ceremony was led by Bangued Mayor Mila Valera, Abra Agricultural Program Coordinating Office head Rosemarie Tesoro, and Municipal Agriculturist Marites Balling.
Brgy. Cabuloan FA president Quirino Bolor conveyed his thanks to the government for the continuous assistance to farmers.
“Dagitoy a makinarya ket mausar ti panagaramid ti organic fertilizers ket maikkatan ti burden mi nga farmers ti gastos ti synthetic fertilizers, isu nga dakkel nga tulong kanyami daytoy, agyaman kami unay kenni Presidente Marcos ta sika ti kangrunaan a tumul-tulong kadakami nga farmers,” he expressed.
