BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – Abra province received a recognition for its commitment in promoting the rights and welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
The Provincial Government of Abra received an award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for achieving ideal functionality for the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) for 2025 and the PDAO Focal Person for 2024.
The province scored 93.50 percent in the 2024 Functionality Assessment which is consistent with the high performance of the province’s ideal functionality achievement in the 2022 and 2023 assessments.
“We present this recognition to the provincial government of Abra for its unwavering commitment to promoting inclusive and efficient local governance, particularly in delivering services to people with disabilities,” DILG-Abra Provincial Director Kristoffer Dave Alvarez said as he presented the certificate of recognition to the provincial government led by Acting Governor Russell Bragas during the first Monday flag raising ceremony on April 7, 2025 at the Provincial Capitol in Bangued.
He added that the achievement shows the initiative of the provincial government to ensure the participation and welfare of PWDs in local governance.
Alvarez also shared that aside from the provincial government, all the 27 municipal government units in Abra successfully attained ideal functionality based on key indicators.
The indicators include the establishment of a PDAO, its accessibility to PWDs, allocation of budget for PWDs, presence of policies and plans for PWDs, accomplished programs, projects, and activities, and regular meetings and partnerships to encourage participation of PWDs. (JJMT, PIA-CAR, Abra)
