BANGUED, Abra (PIA) – The 2025 Abrenian Kawayan Festival celebrated the role of Abra farmers and fisherfolk towards a culture-rich and progressive province.
During the Farmers’ Day: Taripnong ti Mannalon held on March 5, farmers and fisherfolk from the different towns showcased their products such as vegetables, heirloom rice, livestock, and fish in creative floats using hand tractors or kuliglig.
The municipality of Malibcong kuliglig float featuring the town’s wildlife and upland produce won first place while the Sal-lapadan float showcasing its soft broom and bamboo crafts was second place. In third spot was Pilar’s entry highlighting its local vegetables and tobacco produce.
“Us-usto nga dakkel unay nga pagsapulan tayo wenno pamastrekan ti probinsia ti agrikultura. Nakapatpateg ti paset yo ti panag-andar iti ekonomiya ti probinsya tayo. Ipangpangruna kayo met nga maikan ti assistance wenno tulong ti gobyerno,” assured Acting Governor Russell Bragas.
A forum and distribution of equipment and fertilizers to farmers associations were also held at the Abra Sport Complex.
“Dakkel nga banag ti ited na nga tulong kadakami daytoy nga equipment ta addu ngamin idiay ayanmi ti awan irrigation na. Mabalin nga usaren mi para kadagiti nateng nga pang-sibug,” shared Lorenzo Pataray, a farmer from Cabaruan, Danglas.
Meanwhile, Abra Agricultural Program Coordinating Office head Rosemarie Tesoro also recognized the hardwork of Abra farmers and fisherfolk in sustaining communities.
“Dakayo apo ti mangmenmentenar ti food security and sustainability nga ti every family ti rabaw ti lamesaan adda ti makuna nga taraon,” she stressed.
