BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — Various local products and native delicacies are being showcased at the Trade Fair beside the Capitol in celebration of the Dapil Festival 2023 of this municipality.
Seventeen Abrenian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who are participating in the trade fair are selling muscavado, Abrenian coffee, cascaron, chicacorn, pancit miki noodles, the Abel cloths and other handicrafts.
The Agtangao Lubong Association is selling cascaron daily at the trade fair. Association member Alice Bernardez said their sales have improved through the trade fair.
“Mas marami po talagang benta dito kumpara pag nagbahay-bahay lang kami kasi hindi lang taga Bangued ang bibili dito sa trade fair, pati narin mga taga-ibang munisipyo,” she explained.
The ‘cascaron’ is a native delicacy made out of ground glutinous rice with sugarcane molasses from ‘panagdapil’.
In an interview with one of the exhibitors Roxan Sison Tauro, owner of Krishenne’s consumer goods, she said that she has been participating trade fairs both local and national level for a long time. She produces handicrafts and various personal accessories.
“I’ve joined the IMPAKABSAT for so many times now, both in Alabang and in SM Baguio, and it boosted my product’s sales and promotion,” she said.
Tauro is innovating and is now producing handicrafts made out of corn leaf such as artificial flowers, coffee mug mats, baskets, beads, sash, bracelets and many more.
“I need to continuously make a product that will represent the province of Abra. Most offices here are buying from me for their souvenirs and gift items,” she stated.
The trade fair which runs until February 25 is one of the of highlights of the Dapil Festival. This homegrown festival is coined from the word “Panagdapil” which is the traditional method of extracting sugarcane juice. Sugarcane is one main agricultural product of Abra. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
