Abra police forms quick-reaction teams for May 12 polls

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — The Abra Police Provincial Office (PPO) has organized seven Quick Reactionary Teams (QRTs) for the upcoming midterm election this May 2025. 

Abra PPO Provincial Operations and Management Unit (POMU) Chief Jeremiah Benito reported during the reactivation of the Provincial Joint Security Command Conference (PJSCC) that these QRTs including one standby team at Abra PPO will be in charge in responding to incidents on election day on May 12.

“Hindi pa po kasama dito ang SAF (Special Action Forces) and RMFB (Regional Mobile Force Battalion) dito since we are still waiting on the number of personnel na ibibigay sa amin, so madadagdagan pa itong QRT,” Benito said. 

A QRT will be assigned to clustered towns. Sector 1 which will be assigned in Bangued, Langiden, La Paz, Danglas, and Lagayan; Sector 2 in San Quintin, Pidigan, San Isidro, Villaviciosa, and Pilar; Sector 3 in Luba and Tubo; Sector 4 in Tineg, San Juan, Dolores, and Tayum; Sector 5 in Malibcong, Lacub, Licuan-Baay, Lagangilang; Sector 6 in Sal-lapadan, Bucloc, and Daguioman, and Sector 7 in Boliney, Bucay, Peñarrubia, and Manabo.

He mentioned the key points in maintaining a peaceful election in the province such as continuous coordination with COMELEC, augmentation of personnel, contingency planning, among others.

To date, Benito said that the peace and order situation in the province of Abra is generally peaceful.

 “The peace and order situation in the province of Abra is generally peaceful. While there have been some cases, necessary efforts and interventions are being conducted to address these challenges,” he said. 

Abra has records of election-related incidents in the previous political exercises. In the recently-released Commission on Election initial list of election areas of concern, there are towns listed in the Cordillera region, 10 of them in Abra. (JDP/CAGT-PIA CAR, Abra)
