Abra town keen on implementation of preemptive and forced evacuation; activates red alert status

TUBO, Abra (PIA) — The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of here is keen on the strict implementation of preemptive and forced evacuation as typhoon Nika is forecasted to be in the vicinity of Tubo, Abra at 5:00 pm today, November 5, 2024.

The Council also stressed the suspension of travel and tourism to ensure the safety of the public. During the MDRRMC Pre-Disaster Risk Disaster Risk Assessment Meeting, council members ensured measures are in place in preparation of the onslaught of typhoon Nika.

The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office ensured the availability of food items for evacuees and affected population.

Meanwhile, the Engineering Office, Planning and Development Office, and the Philippine National Police committed available equipment, logistics, and man power.

The Municipal Health Office also assured readiness in case of health emergencies.

The Finance Management also ensured the availability of emergency funds while the Municipal Local Government Office and the Municipal DRRM office will continue to facilitate coordination and provide technical assistance on disaster preparedness, response, and relief efforts.

As of 11:00 am of November 11, 2024, the central and southern portion of Abra including Tubo are under Signal No. 4 while the rest of Abra is under Signal No. 3. (JJPM, PIA-CAR, Abra)
