Abra trade fair unveils local ‘treasures’

BANGUED, Abra (PIA) — Abra’s best products are all in one place at the 2025 Kawayan Festival Abrenio Fair, featuring vegetables, heirloom rice, fish, clams, handwoven cloth, bags, hats, local food and handicrafts.

This year’s Abrenio Fair features a food bazaar, trade fair and agri-fair —all located at the Abra Sports Complex from March 4 to 9, 2025.

Catering to festivalgoers, participants and other guests, the Abrenio food bazaar has 60 food vendors and two dining areas where visitors can enjoy their food. From grilled to non-grilled food, beverages, snacks and sweets, the food bazaar also supports local food establishments in the province.

Aside from food businesses, micro, small and medium enterprises are also given a platform to promote their products, such as handwoven cloths, bamboo handicrafts, novelty items and delicacies. The trade fair showcases about 47 DTI-assisted entrepreneurs and 29 guest exhibitors showcasing various local products.

Highlighting the province’s rich agriculture, the agri-booths represent the various produce, livestock and culture of the different municipalities of Abra. The agri-fair houses 30 booths, including the entries of the Abra towns and some guest exhibitors.

“The agricultural booth, our food bazaar and trade fair feature and speak of our identity as Abrenio. It speaks of our past and present and will definitely define our future,” Acting Gov. Russell Bragas shared during the ribbon-cutting and program of the Abrenio Fair on March 4.

During the opening program, Department of Agriculture Cordillera Director Jennilyn Dawayan stressed the rich agricultural landscape of the province and recognized the hardworking Abrenian farmers.

“Abra is a province that cradles the heart of the Cordillera. Abra is special because of its people, resilient, hardworking and deeply connected to the land,” she emphasized.

Department of Trade and Industry Cordillera Director Raymond Panhon also shared the services and programs of the DTI that assist local businesses to grow and prosper.

“All of us are given an enabling role to which we share power and commitment for our common good, not only in this trade fair but in the many programs where we can all synergize our efforts,” he added.

Aside from the food bazaar, trade fair and agricultural booths, part of the Abrenio Fair is a two-day jobs fair held from March 4-5 at the Provincial Capitol Atrium.

The Abrenio Fair opening ceremony was also joined by Department of Labor and Employment Cordillera Assistant Director Emerito Narag and Department of Migrant Workers Cordillera representative Amaranth Rae Abalos, with other stakeholders. (JJMT, PIA-CAR, Abra)
