Advocacy run for WPS to hold 2nd leg in Cebu

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The National Task Force West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) will hold the second leg of its nationwide advocacy run dubbed ‘Takbo Para sa West Philippine Sea’ at SM Seaside City Cebu on Aug. 11.

Runners of all ages are invited to join the advocacy run to raise awareness and support the nation’s sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

According Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Jay Tarriela, the proceeds of the run will fund the educational campaign on the WPS, particularly to support the comic book project entitled “Ang mga Kuwento ni Teacher Jun” which talks about WPS issues.

The comic book will also tackle the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to raise public awareness and understandin on the 2016 arbitral ruling.

Registrants of the ‘Takbo Para sa West Philippine Sea’ will also receive the comic book.

“For every time na magri-register kayo sa pagtakbo sa West Philippine Sea, ang bawat isang runner will be receiving a comic book. This is not just an ordinary paperback comic book – this is a hardbound comic book because the objective of this is talagang patagalin natin, mabasa ng napakaraming Pilipino,” Tarriela said.

The advocacy run also aims to increase the morale of the uniformed personnel in the PCG and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The advocacy run was first held in Manila with over 7,000 participating runners.
Participants may choose from the 4 categories: 2KM, 5KM, 10KM, and 16KM.
