MANILA, (PIA) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is maintaining a heightened alert status during the holiday season, despite not monitoring any significant security threats.
According to AFP Spokesperson Col. Francel Padilla, the military has intensified its support for law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration across the country.
Padilla noted that soldiers have been deployed at various checkpoints and are assisting in monitoring ports, bus stations, and shopping malls to enhance public safety.
While the number of threats appears low, the AFP continues to keep a watchful eye on communist insurgent groups, including the New People’s Army (NPA), which, despite their diminished capacity for large-scale operations, could still regroup and pose risks.
The military remains vigilant, as Padilla emphasized that they do not underestimate the potential for unrest in certain areas.
In addition to holiday security, Padilla stated that the AFP remains focused on its mission, particularly in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity, including areas in the West Philippine Sea. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
