QUEZON CITY (PIA) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has already geared its personnel and equipment nationwide for response to Typhoon Nika (Toraji), its spokesperson, Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, said today, Nov. 11.
These quick response units, she said, include personnel and equipment specialized in search, rescue, and relief operations.
The units are strategically positioned in high-risk areas to provide immediate support to communities affected by the typhoon, she added.
Padilla assured that the military continues to closely monitor the situation, together with local government units and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, to assess the needs on the ground and to deploy necessary resources.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Military Academy Disaster Response Task Group (PMA DRTG) said it is on alert and ready to assist communities that will be affected by Typhoon Nika.
PMA Assistant Superintendent, BGen. Paulo Teodoro has led the inspection of personnel and equipment to ensure the material readiness and individual preparations of each member of the DRTG.
He said they are particularly monitoring the situation in the Cordillera, the home region of its camp in Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City.
Gen. Teodoro said the PMA stands ready to respond in line with the AFP’s commitment to the safety and security of the Filipino people. (PIA DMD)
