MANILA, (PIA) — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is urging remaining members of the communist rebel group to surrender as the deadline for the government’s amnesty program approaches.
AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla announced that the military has neutralized a total of 254 members and supporters of the communist rebel organization this year, with 210 individuals or “friends rescued” choosing to surrender voluntarily.
“The doors of peace will not be open forever [dahil] hanggang next year (March 14, 2026) na lang po ito,” Padilla said, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
As the insurgency diminishes, the AFP is refocusing its efforts toward national security and territorial defense. “We are opening the doors for them to return to the folds of the law and join us in a bigger challenge, which is territorial defense,” she added.
In addition to the efforts against communist rebels, the AFP reported significant progress against local terrorist groups, neutralizing 78 members, with 75 surrendering.
The military remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace and security while facilitating the reintegration of ex-rebels into society.
The National Amnesty Commission is currently processing applications for amnesty under Proclamations Nos. 1090, 1091, 1092, or 1093.
However, members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) involved in serious crimes, including kidnapping-for-ransom, massacre, rape, terrorism, personal crimes, and drug-related offenses, are excluded from eligibility.
As the amnesty deadline looms, the AFP continues to extend an opportunity for former insurgents to reclaim their lives and contribute positively to the nation. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
