Agencies monitor supply, prices of agri commodities in Pasig City

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Teams from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted a joint monitoring of agricultural commodity prices at the Mutya ng Pasig City Mega Market on October 7, 2024.

The initiative, coordinated with the local government unit of Pasig City, was led by DA-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS) Director Junibert De Sagun.

The team included representatives from the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), DA-Inspectorate and Enforcement, and the DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB).

According to the DA-AMAS Bantay Presyo Monitoring, the following retail prices were recorded for selected agri-fishery commodities at the Pasig City Market:

  • Local well-milled rice: P47.5/kg
  • Whole chicken (fully dressed): P190/kg
  • Pork belly (liempo): P360/kg
  • Pork ham (kasim): P320/kg
  • Chicken eggs (white, medium): P8.50/pc
  • Bangus (medium): P140/kg
  • Refined sugar: P83/kg

Director De Sagun emphasized that the DA will enhance its regular monitoring of prices and supply in the Pasig City market and major markets across Metro Manila to ensure that agricultural commodities remain available and affordable, especially with the holiday season approaching.

Pabor sa amin itong monitoring para hindi mag-overprice ang vendors,” said Lucila Damasco, President of the Mutya ng Pasig Mega Market Vendors Federation Inc. (We are in favor of monitoring in order to prevent overpricing by vendors.)

The monitoring team also observed that market vendors were complying with regulations regarding the proper display of commodity prices.

Gusto naming ipakita dito sa Pasig na kaalyado kami ng (national) government. Susunod kami hindi lang for compliance. Manghuhuli po pag hindi nagdisplay ng signages,” Market Administrator Joseph Vincent Pastor Molina said. (We want to show that here in Pasig we are aligned with the national government. We are following not only for compliance. We will apprehend those not displaying proper signages.)

In addition to ensuring the availability of a diverse range of affordable agricultural products, Director De Sagun praised the cleanliness of the Pasig City Market, highlighting its importance in promoting food safety. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
