Aid pours for Kanlaon-affected families

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL (PIA) — Donations for families affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon poured in from Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations and private institutions.

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 (DSWD), the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental provided P592,035.85 assistance while barangays, and the local government units of Bago City, La Carlota City, Municipality of La Castellana, and Municipality of Pontevedra gave a total of P666,680.00 worth of assistance.

Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) also extended cash assistance of P128,100.00 from Bago City and La Carlota City while other stakeholders donated P47,158 from the Municipality La Castellana.

As of June 15, 10 a.m., the number of affected families is now 8,683 comprising 26,367 individuals.

Inside the five evacuation centers, there are now 833 families comprising 2,711 individuals while those outside the evacuation centers reached 31 families comprising 97 individuals.

There were 3,334 family food packs provided to the families amounting to ₱2,067,110.00; non-food items totalled 3,080 amounting to ₱4,725,656 while financial assistance reached P15,790,000. All combined, total assistance reached P22,582,766. 

Five LGUs were affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on June 3. These are Bago City, La Carlota City, and the towns of La Castellana, Moises Padilla, and Pontevedra.

The DSWD 6 in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross also set up Child and Women-Friendly Space and Psychosocial Room facilities inside the evacuation centers for a more protective, inclusive, and safe space for the internally displaced persons (IDP), the department said.

The DSWD also conducted Family Development Sessions (FDS) for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries inside the evacuation centers. (AAL/Lljr/PIA 6 Negros Occidental)
