Aklan info officers elect new set of officials

KALIBO, AKLAN (PIA) – The Aklan Public Information Officers Association (APIOA) elected its new set of officers to lead the organization in the next two years.

During its second quarter meeting at the Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan Conference Room, Capitol Grounds here, Reynard M. Dela Cruz, chief of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and information officer of Nabas, was unanimously elected as the new president of APIOA.

“To serve is a privilege for few because not all were given the chance to do so. Being elected as the president of APIOA is the most challenging task since communication plays a vital role in the society where truth shall prevail and misinformation must be avoided,” Dela Cruz said.

He added that leading the APIOA is challenging but he will fully embrace such and will give his best to fully compensate for the trust given to him.

Dela Cruz is optimistic that APIOA would deliver quality service to the people, especially in providing timely, accurate, relevant and truthful information to the public.

Outgoing president Richie Oloroso of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan expressed her gratitude to the APIOA and assured her continued support to the organization.

Also elected were Edgar M. Prado of Aklan State University – Ibajay as Vice President; Ma. Beth Julievern T. Revesencio of the Department of Public Works and Highways – Aklan as Secretary; and Niña Faye R. Culajara of Philippine Statistics Authority -Aklan, treasurer.

Megan Bernadeth B. Magno of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources  Aklan was elected as Assistant Secretary Treasurer;  while Mary Jane I. Mondia (National Police Commission-Aklan) was chosen as auditor; and Chrispin Raymund B. Gerardo of Commission on Elections Aklan as the new Public Relations Officer.

The government information officers in Aklan also participated in a financial literacy awareness briefing, which aims to enhance their knowledge and skills on financial management.

Dr. Carlo Ben Losande, an ophthalmologist by profession and at the same time an Insurance Adviser, gave the briefing among the IOs in Aklan.

Losande encouraged the members of APIOA to set their financial priorities and determine their needs versus wants while participants were engaged in a workshop to test the inputs from the lecture. (EAD/SQP/PIA-Aklan)
