KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here reported a total of 418,565 registered voters in the province of Aklan for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).
The data shows a strong turnout in voter registration across all municipalities of the two Legislative Districts.
The first legislative district comprises the towns of Altavas, Balete, Banga, Batan, Kalibo, Libacao, Madalag, and New Washington.
Total registered voters for the first legislative district is 211,646, with Kalibo having the highest at 53,724 and Madalag as the lowest at 13,610.
Meanwhile, the second legislative district composed of Buruanga, Malay, Ibajay, Tangalan, Makato, Lezo, Malinao, Numancia, and Nabas has 206,919 voters.
Malay town has the highest number of registered voters at 40,878, while Lezo has the lowest at 10,305.
According to COMELEC, a high voter turnout ensures that the elected officials truly represent the people’s will.
The number of registered voters directly affects the outcome of elections, as the candidates with the most votes win.
The province of Aklan has 603 clustered precincts in 330 voting centers for the May 12, 2025 elections.
The Comelec also released a calendar of activities and periods of certain prohibited acts in connection with the 2025 National and Local Elections and BARMM Parliamentary Elections.
During the PIA-Aklan’s Kapihan sa RMN-Kalibo, Election Officer III and information officer Chrispin Raymund Gerardo of Comelec-Aklan encouraged all registered voters and the public, to become accustomed to the election calendar and the prohibited acts during the election period by the Commission.
For the May 12 elections, the Comelec set the general voting hours from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
However, it will open the precincts from 5:00 am to 7:00 am to give senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities the privilege to vote. (AGP/SQP/PIA-Aklan with reports from Kenth Luces of ASU-Banga)
