Albay all set for MATATAG curriculum rollout

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay (PIA) – The Albay Schools Division of the Department of Education (DepEd) has completed the training sessions for the “MATATAG” curriculum implementation and other preparations for the opening of the 2024-2025 school year.

MATATAG is an update to the country’s K to12 curriculum, covering kindergarten through 10th grade with a focus on reading, math, and life skills, aiming to strengthen core abilities needed for both jobs and daily life.

“Ang DepEd Albay po ay handang-handa na sa pagpasok ng S.Y 2024-2025. Ang ginawa po ng MATATAG curriculum ay nagbawas sa target competencies at nagfocus sa foundational skills,” DepEd Albay Information Officer Froilan Tena said during the Ugnayan sa PIA Albay program.

Parents, education stakeholders, and local communities are encouraged to contribute their time, efforts, and resources to Brigada Eskwela, the nationwide school maintenance program.

“We do not limit if they like to help or give assistance. They can go to the nearest school and talk with the school head or the in-charge for Brigada Eskwela,” he said.

The DepEd has reported that there are 159,532 enrollees in Albay as of July 25, 2024. (With reports from Raiza Lucido/PIA5/Albay)
