Ambassador invites Cordilleran to Manaaki New Zealand scholarships

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – – New Zealand Ambassador to the Philippines Peter Kell invites Cordillerans to apply in the Manaaki New Zealand scholarships when he led the promotion of the program in Baguio City.

The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships have opened 16 application slots for the Filipinos for fiscal year 2024, the Ambassador announced in a media forum at the Baguio Country Club here, Monday (January 30).

The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Program offers fully – funded scholarship in Master of Arts and Doctorate in Philosophy  for preferred courses that include Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Agriculture, Good Governance, Indigenous Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies.

It is open to individuals 40 years old and below.  Online application at the New Zealand Embassy to the Philippines website opened February 1 and will close on February 28 (New Zealand time).

Kell said that studying in his country is more than for academic reasons but also for scholars to know and learn about New Zealand as a place, its people, governance and rich indigenous heritage.

“The opportunity to study in New Zealand is not just an opportunity to develop your skills or your knowledge in your area of expertise, academically speaking. It is also an opportunity to gain the world view of different people in a different country.”

“I am delighted to be here in the Cordilleras because just like New Zealand you have a very, very rich and vibrant indigenous heritage that represents many world views. And I believe that as a representative of New Zealand, one of the interesting things about what New Zealand is trying to do now is to draw on our indigenous heritage to help solve modern global problems not only for our country but for the international community,” Kell said.

The Manaaki Scholarships is an annual and long – term commitment of New Zealand to the Philippines.  To date, there are already more than 2,000 Filipinos who availed of the program.

For interested applicants, Kell advises that aside from filing application, they research first for the courses (at least 2) that they want to take from the universities in New Zealand along with the universities’ academic and documentary requirements.

The  Ambasssador  will also lead the promotion of the New Zealand Manaaki Scholarships in Davao City. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
