Antique officials call for sustained clean-up drive to prevent dengue spread

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) called for a sustained clean-up drive to ward off dengue mosquitoes.

The Antique IPHO reported the continuing increase in dengue cases during the press conference organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) with Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).

As of April 10, Antique has 1,082 dengue cases with three deaths, 460 percent higher than the record last year, with only 193 cases with no casualties.

Health, Education, and Promotion Officer Irene R. Dulduco of the IPHO discussed the symptoms and signs of dengue to keep the public aware and reiterated the necessity to go to the nearest health facility when needed.

Dulduco also reported the dengue fast lanes that are already operational in hospitals, infirmaries, and rural health units across the province to ensure timely and proper medical intervention for suspected dengue patients.

She cautioned about the risk of severe complications when the suspected dengue patients are not given proper medications, thus the need to seek early medical consultation.

Dulduco also reiterated the call for vigilance and the importance of practicing the 5S strategy, which is the Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, employ Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation, Support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas, and Sustain hydration.
