Antique PDRRMC shares summer safety tips, Holy Week plans

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) of Antique presented plans for the observance of the Holy Week and some summer safety tips.

In a press conference co-organized by the Philippine Information Agency, Provincial DRRM Officer Broderick G. Train discussed the preparations of the different member agencies of the PDDRMC to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and meaningful Holy Week and summer vacation.

He emphasized the importance of coordinating with government agencies to ensure road safety, traffic management, motorist assistance, and drowning prevention.

The PDRRMC identified frequent occurrences of vehicular crashes and drowning incidents, prompting the local government unit to focus on deploying resources effectively.

Train encouraged concerned government agencies to implement their respective programs and activities efficiently.

In addition, he called for the activation of the Incident Command System (ICS).

On part of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Senior Fire Officer Jefferson Cordero reported the declaration of heightened alert status of Antique BFP in anticipation of the Holy Week.

BFP also urged everyone to be conscious of fire safety when leaving their houses for vacation or outdoor activities.

Likewise, DENR-PENRO Cynthia Blancia enjoined mountain trekkers, tourists, and trail runners to be responsible tourists/travelers when visiting Antique during the summer season, especially with cigarettes or any flammable material that could cause forest fires.

She encouraged them to respect community traditions and practices, ensuring the local resources are not compromised or destroyed by tourism activities.

Also, the association of Municipal DRRM Officers led by Joy Lancara of Belison town assured the public that the local DRRM Officers in all municipalities in the province have formulated response measures for the upcoming Holy Week and summer vacation.

The local DRRM councils are on heightened alert to ensure prompt response in case of emergencies. (AGP/PSM/PIA Antique with reports from JYD/UA Intern)
