Army celebrates female soldiers’ achievements

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — Underscoring the vital role of military women in promoting gender equality and strengthening the organization, the 4th Infantry Division (4ID) of the Philippine Army (PA) celebrated the achievements and contributions of its women personnel during the 4ID Women’s Night, March 14, here.

The evening featured a parade of rock stars, a dance contest, a raffle, and a flash mob dance, all aimed at fostering camaraderie and recognizing the excellence of women in the military. Key officials also delivered inspiring messages, emphasizing the importance of empowerment and inclusion.

Major Daisy Baguio, chief of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office under the Office of the Chief of Staff for Personnel, 4th Infantry Division, expressed her admiration for the resilience and dedication of military women.

“I stand before you this evening with a heart full of pride and affirmation as we gather to celebrate Women’s Month under the powerful name of Bronze Star. This day will become more fitting to each and every one of you. For you are the true bronze stars for our nation, shining brightly in our endeavors and making an indelible mark on our military community and even on our civilian clients,” Baguio said.

She also highlighted the progress made in achieving gender equality in the military but stressed the need for continuous efforts.

“We must continue to break down the barriers, the challenges, the stereotypes, and create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all women in the military,” she added.

Lorelaine Anayron, assistant vice president of BDO Unibank, Inc., served as the guest of honor and shared her insights on the significance of equality, dignity, and excellence in women’s empowerment.

“I firmly believe that gender equality is not a privilege but a fundamental right. It is about ensuring that every individual, regardless of gender, has equal opportunities to thrive and to contribute to society. And as we espouse equality, let us highlight collaboration and not competition,” Anayron said.

She further commended the women of 4ID for their unwavering commitment to excellence and leadership. “You remind us that empowered women are not just leaders; they are change-makers who inspire others to break barriers and redefine possibilities,” she said.

Drawing from her experiences as a military wife and a banking executive, Anayron highlighted how gender equality contributes to success across various fields, including the military.

She stressed that gender equality is not merely about fairness. It is about unlocking the full potential of society. When women have access to education, leadership roles, and decision-making power, the entire community prospers.

Baguio said the 4ID Women’s Night is a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and contributions of military women, assuring that the Philippine Army will continue advocating for inclusivity and empowerment. (RTP/PIA-10)
