CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The Philippine Army commended the active support of the community in stamping out terrorism.
Commander Cerilo Balaoro Jr. of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division (2ID) praised the community for their ongoing efforts in reporting the movements of New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists in Oriental Mindoro.
This, after a clash ensued during a routine security operation of the army where five NPA terrorists were reported by concerned residents in the area, which led to the death of one female member and recovery of two M16 rifles and other war materials from the scene.
Balaoro emphasized the importance of local cooperation in achieving peace and security in the province.
“We appreciate the continued support from the people of Oriental Mindoro. Your vigilance plays a critical role in our shared goal for lasting peace and development,” Balaoro said.

He also expressed sympathy for the family of the fallen NPA member, noting that she had been misled by recruiters to join an armed struggle that has caused harm to many.
Balaoro urged residents to report individuals who may have been injured in the clash, so they could be given medical care.
“We want to ensure that anyone who was hurt has the chance to recover and live a peaceful life with their loved ones,” he added.
One soldier was hurt but in stable condition and is now given appropriate medical attention.
The 2ID leadership also said that “the latest feat is a clear message to the remaining members of the NPA terrorist group that the government is serious about totally ending the insurgency in Mindoro and the whole regions of CALABARZON and MIMAROPA.” (ALG/PIA MIMAROPA- Oriental Mindoro/With report and photos from 2ID)
