Army strengthens peace efforts; Davao region keeps insurgency-free status

DAVAO CITY (PIA) — The 10th Infantry “Agila” Division (10ID) of the Philippine Army (PA) continues to fortify peace initiatives in the Davao Region, reinforcing its status as insurgency-free through comprehensive surrender programs, localized peace engagements, and inter-agency cooperation.

10ID PA Division Public Affairs Office Chief Major Ruben P. Gadut, emphasized the division’s commitment to sustaining the peace gains by working alongside local government units and stakeholders. This includes active participation in Peace and Order Councils, continuous localized peace dialogues, and the provision of government services to former rebels.

Since the beginning of 2025, a total of 192 members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) have voluntarily surrendered, resulting in the recovery of 43 firearms. These surrenders, facilitated through ongoing engagements with various government agencies, reflect the effectiveness of the government’s amnesty program and the commitment of former combatants to reintegrate into mainstream society.

“We are always looking sa mga possible threats. Nagiging vigilant din po ang ating community sa tulong po ng mga former rebels na kapartner na po ng pamahalaan sa peace-building initiatives.” Maj. Gadut said.

(The community has become vigilant with the help of the former rebels who are the partners of the government in peace-building initiatives.)

To prevent the resurgence of insurgency, 10ID continues to collaborate with agencies in delivering basic services and livelihood assistance to former rebels and vulnerable communities. These efforts aim to address poverty, a known factor contributing to insurgent recruitment. Additionally, strategic communication programs, including radio broadcasts and youth engagement initiatives, help counter CTG propaganda and misinformation.

The division is also coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) as part of the security transition strategy. With the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) shifting focus to territorial defense and internal security stabilization, the PNP is gradually assuming law enforcement responsibilities in previously conflict-affected areas.

“Ang 10th Infantry Division ay nasa mataas na level ng kasanayan at preparasyon sa anumang attempts ng communist terrorist groups.” Gadut said. (REC / PIA XI)
