CABARROGUIS, Quirino (PIA)- – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has assured continuous support towards a strong and united labor sector in the country.
Colonel Davice Christopher G. Mercado, deputy brigade commander of 502nd Brigade, during the recently conducted Multi-Sectoral Dialogue on Freedom of Association in Santiago City, said the AFP and the Philippine National Police are closely coordinating with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to ensure the protection of the workers against any danger and threats.
“We are always in support and in unity with the different government instrumentalities particularly the DOLE in upholding and promoting the workers’ rights, particularly in this freedom of association, policies and directives that emanate from the constitution particularly the bill of rights,” Mercado reiterated.
Mercado said they will not only enforce laws to sustain and maintain workplace peace and harmony but also entail the cooperation and support of government agencies and instrumentalities, particularly the security sector.
Echoing the message of the AFP Chief of Staff, General Romeo S Brawner Jr. during the kickoff of the National Human Rights Consciousness commemoration, Colonel Mercado said human rights are not privileges granted by power or circumstance, they are inherent and shared by all.
“Peace can be achieved through dialogue, collaboration, and unity. By working closely with the community, civil society, and human rights advocates, we can build partnerships that break barriers and create a future where no one is left behind,” Mercado said. (TCB/PIA-2, QUIRINO)
