CLAVERIA, Misamis Oriental (PIA)–Past and present officers and personnel of the 58th Infantry “Dimalulupig” Battalion (58th IB) gather to celebrate its 38th Anniversary on November 12 with the theme Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present, and Securing the Future.
On November 7, 1985, the 58th IB formally activated as a regular unit of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division under General Order No. 313 issued on November 28 of the same year.
Since its establishment, the battalion has received numerous meritorious awards from 1992 to present. Notably, the late President Fidel V. Ramos recognized the battalion as the Best Maneuver Battalion of the Philippine Army in 1995 and awarded the Commanding General Philippine Army Streamer Award in 2002.
In addition to its achievements, the battalion successfully conducted military operations against the Communist Terrorist Group-New Peoples’ Army (CTG-NPA), dismantling groups like Guerilla Front Huawei and Guerilla Front Motorola Platoon Ryan, both part of the Sub-Regional Committee 1 of North-Central Mindanao Regional Committee.
These operations led to significant progress in maintaining peace, order, and capability development in Eastern Misamis Oriental and Camiguin Province.
The Dimalulupig battalion established and implemented an information and education campaign to disrupt the CTG-NPA’s activities, particularly their recruitment among the youth and extortion from local businesses within their areas.
Meanwhile, Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, commander of the 4th Infantry Division, commends the battalion for its accomplishments and contributions to achieving peace and order in Misamis Oriental. Particularly noteworthy was the neutralization of Dionisio Micabalo, secretary of the Northcentral Mindanao Regional Committee, one of the high-ranking officials of the CTG-NPA.
“Undoubtedly, the Dimalulupig’s remarkable achievements produced visible results. These accomplishments manifest in the flourishing economy and booming industry in Eastern Misamis Oriental and Camiguin. The surge in business and tourism is a testament to the feeling of safety and security that the people feel,” Cuerpo said.
As the battalion celebrates its 38th Anniversary, Lt. Col. Christian Uy, the Commanding Officer of the 58th IB, vows to remain committed to their mission of protecting the communities within their jurisdiction and pursuing those who pose threats to the peace and order of Misamis Oriental and Camiguin provinces.
“As we carry out our mission, rest assured that we will persist in revitalizing, reinventing, and implementing the systems established by our predecessors. This dedication ensures that the 58th IB will remain the finest battalion in the Philippine Army in the years to come,” Uy concluded. (JAKA/PIA10)
