Army’s combat engineer battalion joins in humanitarian aid to Myanmar

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The 525th Combat Engineer Battalion (525CEB), Combat Engineer Regiment of the Philippine Army joins the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) to earthquake-hit Myanmar.

525CEB Commanding Officer Col. Michael Rey L. Bautista led the delegation in a send-off ceremony on Tuesday at the Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

The team will help in humanitarian and relief operations following the recent 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, which also affected parts of Thailand.

Likewise, they will join the members from 505th Search and Rescue Group, Philippine Air Force (SRG-PAF), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Health (DOH), and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

Together, they will support search and rescue efforts and provide essential assistance to affected communities.

In February 2023, the 525CEB was among the contingents that provided aid to Turkiye during the massive earthquake

The Philippine Army is confident of 525CEB’s proficiency in executing complex rescue operations. Their expertise in locating and extricating survivors will surely play a critical role in the humanitarian response for our fellow Asian neighbors such as Myanmar. (JEG/PIA-NCR)
