QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — About 100 families or more than 500 residents have been evacuated because of the continuous rise in the water level of the Marikina River due to the incessant rains.
A total of 546 residents voluntarily evacuated their homes Saturday night after the river was raised to the second alarm when the water level reached 16.5 meters at 12:00am Sunday.
Under the Marikina Alarm System, the first alarm is raised when the water level in the river rises to 15 meters and a warning is given to residents; the second alarm (16 meters) requires residents to prepare for possible evacuation, while the third alarm (17 meters) means residents need to evacuate.
According to the report, the height of the flood has exceeded six feet so the residents left voluntarily and went to the evacuation centers in the city.
Families in evacuation centers will be allowed to return to their homes once the river recedes. (PIA-NCR)
