BONTOC, Mountain Province (PIA) — Athletes are the embodiment of hard work and dedication and passion, and municipal sports can teach precious life lessons to live together as a people and a community.
This was the gist of the messages during the opening of the 2024 District Meet of the School District of Bontoc.
Bontoc Mayor Jerome B. Tudlong, represented by Municipal Administrator Eric Fulangen, Sr., underscored that the athletes are the embodiment of hard work and dedication and passion.
“In this vibrant gathering, I see faces of our future community leaders. Champions in their respective athletic skills and role models of sportsmanship that Bontoc needs. You are the embodiment of hard work, education and passion” he said.
He pointed out that sports teach not only the athletes but everyone life lessons that will help in the community.
“Our municipal sports can teach us precious life lessons as we live together as a people and community,” he added.
Eunark G. Andaya of the Mountain Province State University who served as the guest of honor and speaker, expressed that sports should not discriminate based on gender.
“I saw this as an opportunity to challenge that prejudice and demonstrate that sports should not discriminate based on gender. Nevertheless, it pushed me to perform better in order to represent any member of the rainbow community who has experienced discrimination while participating in sports,” said Andaya, an LGBT who excels in taekwondo.
The three-day meet culminated with the ALBAGO zone composed of Alab, Gonogon, Bilig and Dantay Elementary Schools emerging as the champion in the elementary level, and the Mountain Province General Comprehensive High School for the secondary level.
Organizers of the activity expressed their profound appreciation to all stakeholders who are continuously supporting not only the activities of DepEd but the students as a whole. (JDP/VJLT, PIA-CAR, Mt. Province)
