AUDIO Bohol spreads Christmas cheer with female PDLs

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — To make the females deprived of liberty at the Bohol District Jail Female Dormitory (BDJFD) feel the holiday cheer even behind bars, the Association of United Development Information Officers (AUDIO)-Bohol turned over their Christmas bundles of joy on Dec. 17.

AUDIO-Bohol president Doris Isabel J. Racho shared that the gift-giving event is not just about the Christmas season but part of the association’s outreach activity.

“This is the third year of the association’s outreach activity where in 2022, we also gave candy packs and school supplies to the children of indigenous people living in Biabas, Guindulman and last year in Barangay Tuboran, Bien Unido,” Racho said.

AUDIO-Bohol convenor and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Bohol Government Information Center Coordinator Rey Anthony Chiu, in his message, shared that since no one is so rich to need nothing, and no one is also as poor to have nothing to give, so the group spreads the Christmas cheer by giving Christmas packs with hygiene kits to BDJFD inmates in this year’s outreach activity.

The AUDIO-Bohol officials handed out the Christmas bundles of joy to 24 female inmates.

Some of the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) became emotional, with one PDL sharing that she was touched by the group’s gesture as they took time to visit them and even prepared gifts for them.

During the program, two female PDLs performed a song number as their version of thanking the AUDIO members, their jail officials, and female jail warden.

With calls to make someone’s life easier, the moment resounded as even those deprived of liberty shared their talents during the program.

BDJFD acting jail warden SJO2 Maria Jessa Joy Torreon thanked the group for bringing joy and hope to the female PDLs, saying that the activity embodied the spirit of Christmas and made a positive impact on the lives of the inmates.

“Your kindness and selflessness have not only provided essential support to our PDL but also uplifted their spirits during this Christmas season while they are far from their family,” Torreon said.

This year’s gift-giving event was made possible because of the cooperation and financial contribution of the officers and members of AUDIO-Bohol and with the help of the three representatives of Bohol – Cong. Edgar Chatto, Cong. Maria Vanessa Aumentado, Cong. Alexie Tutor and DPWH-2 District Engr. Fernando J. Talagsa.

AUDIO-Bohol is an aggrupation of government information officers from the national government agencies and the local government units based in the province, with PIA as the secretariat and lead agency. (ECB/PIA7-Bohol)
