Baguio Botanical Garden opens outdoor photography exhibit

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – Take a breather from the usual bustling city and experience a creative journey at the Botanical Garden with  its  “Fifty Shades of Bloom.”

The largest outdoor photography exhibit in Northern Luzon showcases the works of 50 photographers  from Baguio City and Benguet  on various plants and flowers, and the rich culture of the indigenous peoples of the Cordilleras. These art works are illuminated at night adding to the allure of the  Botanical Garden. .

“Creatively, it is called Fifty Shades of Bloom because there are 50 photographers. It is the largest outdoor  exhibit in the North,” said designer and portrait photographer Eros Goze.

“Under the moonlit sky, Fifty Shades of Bloom comes to life- the largest outdoor photography exhibit in Northern Luzon. Fifty photos illuminate the Botanical Garden, each image a whisper of nature’s romance, mystery and beauty. Stroll through the luminous photography, where every bloom tells a story, glowing softly like love in the night..,” the promotional ad stated.

According to Baguio City  Environment and Parks Management Office  head lawyer  Rhenan Diwas,  they repurposed the decorations at the Botanical Garden from the Christmas Special to the Panagbenga Special called the Fifty Shades of Bloom.

“This Panagbenga edition of the Botanical Garden is actually the first one. So, what we did was to rehab, to repurpose ‘yung mga ilaw para magkaroon ng luminous presentation pa rin ng Botanical Garden at night,” he said.

The Fifty Shades of Bloom  was conceptualized by Goze. He connected the exhibit’s title with the Panagbenga Festival and made it inclusive for other artists.

“It started when Sir Rhenan called me to ask if I had ready photos. Sabi niya one man show sana, sabi ko let’s make it inclusive with all the photographers. So naisip na lang namin is to make it a group show with all the professionals. Since it is Botanical, the theme is flowers,” Goze said.

Diwas invites everyone, tourists and Baguio locals, to experience  the first-ever Panagbenga Special of Botanical Garden.

The Fifty Shades of Bloom runs from February 13 to May 30, 2025, and is open from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. (JDP/DEG/Chelsea Mas- PIA-SLU Intern)
