Baguio City gov’t, Fil– Chinese Community renew ties; launch Spring Festival 2025

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The  city government and the Filipino-Chinese Community in Baguio renewed their ties as they launched  the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival 2025 through the official unveiling of the calendar of activities and a festive program during the January 20  flag raising ceremony at the city hall grounds.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the annual celebration of Chinese new year in Baguio is a long-standing tradition in the city that symbolizes the renewal, unity, prosperity, and sisterhood with the Baguio Filipino-Chinese Community.

 “It (the Spring Festival) imposes a bond of friendship and cooperation that flourish in Baguio for generations. This bond, one built on mutual respect and thrust that is getting stronger through the years, not only through sharing but as well as infusion of practices and traditions, commerce and other collaborative efforts that contribute to the city’s progress,” Magalong said.

“As we welcome the Year of the Snake, let us draw inspirations from its symbolism of strength, wisdom, prosperity and renewal; characters that can guide us as we continue to work together for creating a better Baguio,” the mayor added.

In behalf of the City Government, Magalong expressed deepest appreciation to the Filipino-Chinese Community in Baguio for their invaluable contributions to the city’s progress, development and growth.

Chinese New Year 2025 Executive Committee Chairperson Peter Ng expressed the Filipino – Chinese Community’s gratitude to the Baguio city government for the continuing partnership and its support in celebrating the Spring Festival.

“The city government of Baguio and the Filipino-Chinese Community in Baguio have continuously partnered together for over 27 years. We are truly grateful to our city officials for their continuing support and  this event  is one of the city’s major community activities,” Ng said.

“The goal of the festival is to promote better understanding and cooperation between the Filipino-Chinese community in order to strengthen our historical friendship and unity. This launching highlights the renewal of cooperation of two unique cultures towards unity, peace and prosperity for all of us,” he added.

This year’s Chinese new year celebration will welcome the Year of the Wooden Snake on Jan. 29.

Baguio City’s Spring Festival 2025  will be highlighted by a grand colorful parade set at 2:30 PM  of Jan. 30 and a Spring Festival Little Chinatown Sunday Showcase at Session Road on Jan. 26.

The Filipino-Chinese Community will also host a fellowship night for Baguio media practitioners and a barangay gift-sharing on Jan. 22 and 24, respectively. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
