BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – The City Health Services Office (HSO) is inviting males who support family planning to avail of the free non-scalpel vasectomy that will be available from November 27-29, 2024.

Pre-registration is required and individuals can sign-up by visiting the Baguio City HSO along Teodora Alonzo Street, Baguio City.

Dr. Nelson Hora of the City HSO explained during the Department of Health- led Kapihan media forum, that vasectomy involves a minor surgical procedure intended to provide life-long, permanent and very effective protection against pregnancy with 99.8 percent effectiveness rate.

Vasectomy is very effective, no known long-term side effect or health risk and contrary to the common fears. It does not affect man’s ability to have sex and it will increase sexual enjoyment because there is no need to worry about pregnancy, Hora added.

On the fear of surgery and pain, the doctor explained that the non-scalpel vasectomy is a 10-15 minute surgical procedure done under local anesthesia with fast recovery process.

Most of the patients can resume normal activities within one week after the procedure.

Hora shared that more and more men are availing of non-scalpel vasectomy at the Baguio City HSO.

“Mula nung ini-start naming ang campaign ng vasectomy, parami ng parami na rin ang mga lalaki ang nag a- accept o nagpapa vasectomy. Nagstart kami ng paisa-isa lang kada buwan, ngayun dumadami na and actually nung last namin ay more than 50 ang navasectomy naming,” Hora said.

To help the public make an informed decision about vasectomy, the DOH provides counseling before the procedure to ensure that those availing fully understand the process and its potential impact on their health and lifestyle.

Joining Hora in said media forum were DOH-CAR officials and guests from the Police Regional Office who promoted the Drug Abuse Prevention Week that is being observed every 3rd week of November, and Anti-Violence against women and Children and the observance of Children’s Month this November.
