Baguio Flower Festival opens Feb. 1 with drum & lyre, cultural street dancing performances

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — It’s festival time once again in Baguio City. The month-long Baguio Flower Festival, popularly known as Panagbenga, is all set for the grand opening day parade this Saturday, February 1, 2025.

The drum and lyre corps of five competing elementary schools, four from Baguio City and one from Rosario, La Union, and guest performer from a school in Pugo, La Union, are expected to provide amazing performances and lively music. Around 33 cultural groups are expected to join in the street dancing performances for a jolly atmosphere.

More than a thousand police personnel and volunteers will be deployed for parade route security, traffic management, mobile patrol, covert security, medical teams and quick reaction teams to ensure an orderly parade and the safety of the parade contingents and the public.

The PanagbengaScapes and the Baguio Blooms at the Burnham Park will also be opened on Feb. 1. The PanagbengaScapes is a landscaping competition and exhibition where the public can witness the creativity of highlanders in creating artistic gardens. There will also be green and flowery plants and other garden materials to be offered for sale.

For the Baguio Blooms, the public can enjoy a market encounter wherein various food products and shops for arts and crafts and other non – food products will be available at the Juan Luna Drive of Burnham Park.

The 29th Baguio Flower Festival with the theme, “Blossoms Beyond Boundaries,” offers a lot more until its culmination on March 2.

The grand street dance parade is set on Feb. 22 while the grand floral float parade is on Feb. 23.

A fluvial parade at Burnham Park is set on Feb. 27.

The week-long “Session Road in Bloom” will happen on Feb. 24 to March 2 where the city’s main road will be closed to traffic giving way for stalls offering various products and foods, and for concerts and performances.

Meanwhile, the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc., announced that incumbent and candidates are prohibited from using the Panagbenga festival activities as platforms for campaigning, endorsing, or distributing campaign materials.

Festival venues must remain free from political advertisements, banners and tarpaulins, among others. BFFFI Executive Committee appeals for continuing support and teamwork from all Panagbenga partners and stakeholders, as well as from the people in ensuring a successful Baguio Flower Festival 2025.(JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
