Baguio women group creates new products from discarded materials 

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Kalipunan ng Lipining Pilipina (KALIPI) Alluyon Di Inin-an Di Dontogan, a women’s organization in Barangay Dontogan, Baguio City has showcased resourcefulness, creating products from recycled materials.

This initiative not only provides livelihood opportunities for members but also helps in waste management.

Through recycling and upcycling, the women  transformed discarded fabrics and unused items into usable products  such as pot holders, rugs, and bags. The products are displayed at the KALIPI Center in Dontogan and are also sold during the Session Road trade fair every Sunday.

“Ti livelihood tayo ditoy ket more on recycled products, tapnu makatulong tayo iti community on waste management. Dagijay haan tayon nga mausar nga bado, mabalin tayo nga i-recycle or upcycle tapnu maging useful suna,” Kalipi president Mema Paran said.

(Our livelihood is more on recycled products  to help waste management in the community. The clothes  that we don’t use anymore , we can recycle or upcycle to make it useful.)

 

The barangay local government provides support through allocating livelihood funds annually to the organization  which was formed in 2020 with 60 members aged 18 to 59.

“Ti maited tayo is the budget allocation, and also assistance. If they need us, kadwaen tayo met isuda, every time we meet, during our council meeting every month we’re inviting different organizations every time they have concerns, proposals that need to be discussed,” Kagawad Alpha Bagowan shared.
