Bahandi: The gem of Eastern Visayas, where tradition meets innovation

PASIG CITY, (PIA) — Missing food and goods from the Visayas Region? Catch the ‘Bahandi’ Trade Fair in Metro Manila.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 8 brings the ‘Bahandi’ Eastern Visayas Trade Fair to the Mega Trade Hall at the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

‘Bahandi,’ a Binisaya term for treasures and wealth, is the Department of Trade and Industry 8 brand for its Eastern Visayas Trade Fair since 1987 where tradition meets innovation.

Now on its 24th year, the trade fair continues to showcase how the rich cultural heritage of the Eastern Visayas Region evolved through creative ingenuity, with 158 exhibitors representing Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar.

DTI Region 8 Regional Director Celerina Bato CESO III welcomed special guests and visitors to the trade fair during the opening ceremony. RD Bato said they aim to generate 40 million pesos in sales and to present local artists from the region.

Likewise, in his message of support, guest of honor Senator Mark Villar congratulated the DTI and DTI Region 8 for this year’s Bahandi Trade Fair. Sen. Villar expressed his gratitude to DTI for providing a venue for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He also assured the DTI of his continued support to MSMEs and to DTI.

Meanwhile, the Bahandi Trade Fair features its first-ever creative exhibit, where international and local artists from Region 8 like Roel Cabulang, Dante Enage, and Ryan Managaysay proudly exhibit and market their masterpieces.
