BAIS CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The city government here will soon offer five skills training programs at the newly-inaugurated training center in Barangay Consolacion.
Bais City Training Center Community Training and Employment coordinator Bemar Torres disclosed that the city government is now in the process of accrediting technical-vocational (tech-voc) training programs on barista, computer system servicing, housekeeping, food and beverage, and driving with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Negros Oriental.
Torres said that for now, they are pushing for the purchase of training equipment that are necessary for the accreditation of the program.
“Once this training center is fully operational, accredited by TESDA tanang training (all training) is free for Baisanons,” Torres said.
The training center was formally inaugurated on Jan. 10 with the blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city officials led by Mayor Luigi Goñi.
The Bais City Training Center is a three-storey building located near the City Agriculture Office.
It has lecture rooms, demonstration rooms for barista training, housekeeping services, and computer system servicing.
It also has a dormitory and a conference hall on the third floor.
All of the lecture and demonstration rooms are equipped with CCTV cameras for the security of the learners.
Torres noted that they already piloted a skills training program on barista with a TESDA-accredited training center from Dumaguete City in the said building recently to certify the readiness of their facilities.
Torres said they are also planning to offer additional skills training on sugarcane production, shielded metal arc welding, and heavy equipment operation so they can refer their learners to Central Azucarera De Bais for immediate employment opportunity.
“The role of the LGU and the industry is naay coordination para ma-identify nato unsa ang ilang kinahanglan para ang taga-Bais dili na kinahanglan moadto pa sa laing lugar para ma-secure nila ang usa ka training or NC. Dire lang sila sa Bais,” Torres said.
(The role of the LGU and the industry is to coordinate with one another so that we can identify the needs of Baisanons. With this, Baisanons will no longer have to go somewhere else to secure training or National Certificates. They just have to come here.)
The city government aims to accomplish the requirements for TESDA accreditation within the year. (RAL/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
