BARMM gov’t distributes eyeglasses to senior citizens

COTABATO CITY (PIA) – The Bangsamoro government is providing free eyeglasses to senior citizens in a bid to address the visual health needs of indigent elderly persons.

The distribution of free eyeglasses is through the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), in partnership with the Glang Eye Care Clinic in this city.

Social Services and Development Minister Raissa Jajurie acknowledged the vision challenges faced by elderly individuals, which impact their overall health and social interactions.

“Through the Sagip Paningin Para Kay Lolo at Lola Program, we aim to help our elderly maintain a good quality of life despite their age, enabling them to read and sustain meaningful relationships with their families,” Jajurie said during the launching of the program.

The ministry has already provided free eyeglasses to 72 senior citizens in this city, ensuring improved eye health and clearer vision.

It said they specifically designed the “Sagip Paningin Para Kay Lolo at Lola” program to address the visual health needs of indigent senior citizens in the region.

Dr. Zuhra Adam Glang, owner of Glang Eye Care Clinic, the MSSD program partner clinic, also expressed her commitment to providing quality eyeglasses for the elderly.

MSSD launched the program in October of last year and conducted a pilot assessment for 39 elderly individuals in the city.

The program aims to cater to 1,000 beneficiaries from various provinces across BARMM.

With the program now in full scale, the MSSD expressed its dedication to its successful implementation while also committing to improving the overall welfare of the elderly in the region. (With reports from MSSD-BARMM)
