BARMM gov’t provides subsidies to private Madrasah schools

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA) — Seven (7) private Madrasah institutions in underserved communities within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) received subsidies from the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) on Feb. 24, to support balanced and inclusive education.

This initiative is aligned with the Ministry’s goal to ensure that all learners, regardless of socioeconomic status, have access to education.

The recipients of the subsidies include Southern Philippines Islamic Institute Foundation, Inc. (P1,575,000.00), Madrasah Bahrul Hayat Al-Islamie, Inc. (P360,000), Sakeenah Al-Islamiyah Institute, Inc. (P1,780,000), Ma’ahad As-Saqafah Al-Islamie, Inc. (P2,200,000), Sultan Kudarat Islamic Academy – Elementary Annex (P2,260,000), Shariff Aguak Ibn Ampatuan Islamic Memorial Academy, Inc. (P3,445,000), and Ibn Siena Integrated School Foundation, Inc. (P11,590,000).

Education Minister Mohagher Iqbal emphasized the importance of the program, stating that “Islamic education is crucial not only in madaris but also in the education system itself.”

He also stressed the significance of incorporating Islamic studies into the broader education system, recognizing its potential to impact both individuals and communities.

“We believe that when one is educated, they have a greater chance of improving their life and making a more significant contribution to their respective communities,” he stated.

During the event, a total of 13 madrasah institutions were recognized for their work in curriculum development, community engagement, and student outcomes.

Seventeen (17) private Madrasah institutions were also recognized for their significant contributions to the educational development of the Bangsamoro region. (BIO/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
