MARAWI CITY (PIA) — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has launched its sixth founding anniversary celebrations, showcasing the region’s significant strides in peacebuilding, governance, and development.
The week-long festivities, which kicked off on the morning of January 20, 2025, included a parade with colorful floats, traditional performances, and enthusiastic participation from local government employees, embodying the spirit of unity and pride in the region’s accomplishments.
The ceremonial opening featured the symbolic banging of the gong by Wali of the Bangsamoro, Sheikh Muslim Guiamaden, marking the start of the anniversary program. This year’s theme, “Salamat BARMM: Pagpupugay sa Anim Taong Paglilingkod sa Bangsamoro,” reflects the region’s collective journey of progress, fostering unity, promoting peace, and celebrating the transformative development underway across the region.
The BARMM was officially established on January 21, 2019, through Republic Act No. 11054 or the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), marking a historic step toward greater autonomy and self-governance for the Bangsamoro people.
“In these past six years, we have achieved significant milestones together. We have laid the groundwork for an empowered, cohesive, and progressive Bangsamoro,” said BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, highlighting the region’s achievements and the progress made under the autonomous government.
The Chief Minister also emphasized that the anniversary serves not only as a celebration of the region’s successes but as a reaffirmation of its commitment to creating an inclusive, prosperous future for all Bangsamoro citizens. “We honor the sacrifices of our struggles—a living memory that serves as the foundation of our present and the light that guides our way to the future,” he added.
Over the past six years, BARMM has made considerable strides in key sectors, including education, infrastructure development, and peace and security. These accomplishments are foundational to the region’s long-term development and sustainability. The BARMM government has also worked on enhancing social services, fostering economic growth, and implementing policies that prioritize the welfare of its people.
“As we honor the past six years, let us be grateful for what we have achieved, but also fueled with love for our homeland and a purpose to build a future worthy of our dreams, history, and the name of Bangsamoro,” Ebrahim emphasized., encouraging the Bangsamoro people to continue working together for a brighter tomorrow.
