BARMM’s ‘Lakbay Kultura’ program boosts cultural awareness

COTABATO CITY (PIA) — The Bangsamoro government has intensified its efforts to boost cultural awareness in the region through its Lakbay Kultura program.

Recently, the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH) held a three-day Lakbay Kultura activity, involving 60 Cotabato City school teachers and cultural workers from the Bangsamoro region, focusing on module development and trainer training.

“This program, Lakbay Kultura, will explore the diversity within the region, illustrating how culture varies across ethnicities, traditional practices, and geographical locations,” said Salem Y. Lingasa, chairperson of the BCPCH in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The three-day activity in this city aimed to provide the participants with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively conduct the Lakbay Kultura lectures in different parts of the region.

Lingasa emphasized that the Lakbay Kultura is a cultural outreach program that aims to promote cultural awareness among the Bangsamoro people.

He also cited the significant role of school teachers and cultural workers as ambassadors of BARMM’s rich culture.

“In this important responsibility, we are not just cultural workers and teachers, but we are also storytellers that connect the past, present, and future,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Sheryan Guialel, a BCPCH community affairs officer, said they hope to provide basic information and an introduction to the culture and heritage of the Bangsamoro people residing in the region through Lakbay Kultura.

“This year we decided to do the training of trainers for the Lakbay Kultura para ma-spread po natin sa iba’t ibang probinsya ng BARMM ang ating awareness program (to enable us to expand our awareness program throughout the various provinces in BARMM). Gusto rin nating pagtibayin ito (we also want to strengthen this) through the development of our module of Lakbay Kultura,” she explained.

In his Facebook post, Corocoy O. Mastura, a school teacher and one of the participants, said that the Lakbay Kultura program is vital in enhancing cultural awareness among the Bangsamoro residents, especially the youth.

“Comprehending and preserving cultural heritage is vital for every individual and needs to be passed from one generation to another,” he shared.

The BCPCH is also confident that the Lakbay Kultura program will preserve and celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of the Bangsamoro region. (PIA Cotabato City)
