MARAWI CITY (PIA)—The plan to advance and strengthen the BARMM’s textile industry was formalized following the signing of a partnership between the Ministry of Trade, Investments and Tourism and the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on Jan. 31, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
The agreement, signed during the 2025 National Textile Convention, aims to explore innovative techniques and technologies to improve textile production quality, efficiency, and sustainability in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
MTIT Minister Abuamri Taddik underscored the importance of the partnership and its potential impact on the Bangsamoro textile industry.
“Through this partnership, our sector will address challenges by mapping and assisting our textile sector, strengthening the value chain, mapping and equipping an artisan with technical skills, and developing a long-term strategy and a roadmap for industry growth,” Minister Taddik said.
Accordingly, the textile industry has faced several challenges from limited market access and outdated technology to costs in scale, training, and infrastructure.
“Weaving is more than just an art form of Bangsamoro and has been a symbol of identity, resilience, and transparency,” he added.
Moreover, DOST-PTRI and the Bangsamoro Ministry are committed to working together to increase productivity and foster new weave designs.
This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening the textile industry in BARMM, creating more job opportunities, and promoting economic development. (BIO/PIA-10 Lanao del Sur)
