Basilan welcomes additional troops to secure 2025 elections

LAMITAN CITY, Basilan (PIA) — The 101st “Three Red Arrows” Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army (PA) recently welcomed the arrival of additional military troops to augment personnel deployment during the National and Local Elections on May 12, ensuring peace, order, and voter safety. 

Brigadier General Alvin V. Luzon, commander of the 101st Infantry “Three Red Arrows” Brigade, officially welcomed the arrival of the 113th Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) of the 11th Infantry Division, PA. The unit, led by First Lieutenant Eric Regaspe (Infantry) PA, was received at the Headquarters of the 14th Special Forces Company, 4th Special Forces Battalion, in Lamitan City.

Luzon expressed his appreciation and confidence in the capabilities of the newly deployed unit.

“I have full trust in your professionalism, discipline, and dedication. You will be working alongside the capable and committed soldiers of the 101st Infantry Brigade, and I am confident that together, we will ensure a secure and peaceful electoral process in Basilan,” he said.

The Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) and Joint Task Force (JTF) “Orion”, a  “multi-service, multi-domain” task force formed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Mindanao Command following the deactivation of Joint Task Force Basilan and Joint Task Force Sulu, believed that the integration of the 113th DRC into ongoing security measures represents a significant step in the military’s sustained efforts to uphold the integrity, credibility, and peaceful conduct of the electoral process across Western Mindanao. 

This initiative follows a visit from Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, commander of WESTMINCOM, and Major General Leonardo I. Peña, commander of JTF Orion, to the 101st Infantry Brigade Headquarters, highlighting the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ unwavering commitment to safeguard democratic principles and the right to vote for every citizen.

Luzon said that the 101st Infantry Brigade, in close collaboration with WESTMINCOM and JTF Orion, remains resolute in its mission to facilitate a credible, orderly, and peaceful election in Basilan reinforcing the commitment to protect the democratic process and the safety of all voters.
