PILAR, Bataan (PIA) – Bataan Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III emphasized the role of war veterans and fallen heroes in shaping the country’s history and identity.
He said they serve as the link that binds love for the country.
“You [veterans] are the foundation upon which our history stands. The driving force that propels us forward into the future. As the feet of our history, you have taken the crucial steps that have shaped our nation’s past and forged our identity. As the shoulders that carry our future, you provide the strength and support needed to lift us up, ensuring that your legacy of courage, resilience, and sacrifice continues to inspire us as we build a brighter tomorrow,” Garcia told attendees during the 81st Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).
The official recalled the bravery, heroism, and sacrifices of war veterans and fallen heroes during the Battle of Bataan which then led to the eventual liberation of the Philippines.
“Today, we come together to honor the bravery, resilience, and sacrifice of our war veterans and fallen heroes who fought gallantly for our freedom and independence. During the Battle of Bataan, these brilliant men and women displayed extraordinary courage and determination in the face of adversity. They held their ground for several months despite the overwhelming odds against them,” he said.
“Their resistance served as a vital delaying action that bought valuable time for the allied forces to regroup and prepare for the eventual liberation of the Philippines. Their heroism continues to serve as inspiration and pride for all Filipinos,” Garcia added.
This year’s observance, the first under the Marcos Jr. administration, carries the theme “Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Pundasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino.” (CLJD/CASB-PIA 3)
