SBDP water system project benefits 2 barangays in Mutia town

MUTIA, Zamboanga del Norte (PIA) – Residents of Barangays Tubac and New Siquijor, this town can now enjoy free and accessible water supply closer to their own homes with the recent implementation of the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP) Water System Project spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-9.

Mutia Municipal Mayor Lorrymir Adasa, together with officials from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, holds the ribbon cutting ceremony of the water systems implemented under the Barangay Development Program.

According to locals, before the project came into fruition, residents had to fetch water from distant creeks and rivers.

“Now we don’t have to worry, because back in the day we would have to carry gallons through kilometers of really steep roads just so we would have water to drink and wash ourselves with,” said Gilbert Pusod, a resident of Barangay Tubac.

Although the water system is not connected directly into the households, it is strategically placed near the residents’ homes, making it easier for locals to access water.

“We’re very thankful to finally have a water source close to our homes,” said Nellie Colotseño, who has lived in Barangay Tubac since she was a child.

Sourced from a local spring, both water systems offer drinkable water verified by potability test results from Agape Diagnostic Center in Dipolog City.

According to New Siquijor Barangay Chairperson, Piñero Lumindig, Jr., he, along with his constituents, are increasingly grateful to be beneficiaries of these projects.

He also called to remind his residents to take care of these facilities to ensure that they will continue to benefit from it, as well as ensure that the water remains unpolluted.

The project, which was officially inaugurated last September 2024, are all made to ensure that the gains in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict are sustained. (EDT/PJF/PIA9-Zamboanga del Norte)
