BAGUIO CITY (PIA) —  The Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) signed an Emergency Power Supply Agreement (EPSA) with GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) in line with its  commitment to ensure sufficient power supply for its member consumers  especially with the upcoming summer season.

BENECO General Manager Melchor Licoben and Board of Directors Chairperson George Dumawing Jr.,  Abotiz Power Corp Senior Assistant Vice President  Jeremiah Padilla, GNPD Sales Manager Ronald Gutierrez and GNPD Power Marketing Officer Florence Aguilar  signed the agreement on February 25, 2025.

The EPSA is an important move for BENECO as it  awaits  the Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of its  long- term power supply agreement application that was filed last February 3, Licoben explained.

BENECO will  contract 73MW of power supply per day  to augment its  daily requirement of 109 MW for its  145,000 member consumers and a total of around 200,000 electric connections. The EPSA involves a five-month timeframe.

For the part of the GNPD, Padilla assured that as one of the largest  coal power plants in the country  that has operating for a long time, they will deliver their services  and at competitive price.

Meantime, Licoben shared that BENECO is also pushing renewable energy projects in its pursuit of ample and stable supply of electric power to  its consumers.

BENECO is now pursuing the full commercialization of the 3.2 MW Man-asok Mini Hydro Power in Buguias, Benguet. Also, applications for five more renewable energy projects in Kabayan, Benguet, are filed  with the Department of Energy. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
